Arrival to Budapest

Arrival to Budapest by air:

Most visitors will arrive at the Budapest Ferihegy Airport - Terminal 2A and Terminal 2B, or Terminal 1 in case of arriving by low fair airlines.

Arrival to Budapest by train:

More than fifty trains a day provide direct links between Budapest and 25 other capital cities. Trains to Vienna run every three hours. International trains operate from the three largest stations:

  • Keleti pályaudvar (railway station): VIII., Baross tér. Tel: (+36-1) 413 - 4610.
  • Nyugati pályaudvar: VI., Nyugati tér Tel: (+36-1) 349-8503

Public transport in Budapest:

Fares cannot be paid on board and there are fines for traveling without a validated ticket. Tickets are valid for one ride only. A new ticket must be used every time you change lines. Tickets can be cancelled in meters (red punch slots on the board of the tram or bus) or at the metro station entrances (orange boxes). Tickets can be purchased at metro stations, hotels, newsstands and tobacco shops. All three metro lines meet at Deák tér and run from 4:30am to 11pm. Most bus and tramlines operate until 11pm.

From Budapest to Balatonfüred

There are direct train and bus connections to Balatonfüred from Budapest. The trains depart from the Déli Pályaudvar (South Railway Station) and the buses depart from the Népliget Volánbusz Pályaudvar (Népliget Bus Terminal)

Getting to the Déli Railway Station or to the Népliget Bus Terminal from the Airport:

By Minibus Service: The Airport mini-bus service will take you anywhere in Budapest. Information desk (operator) for mini-bus service is situated in the center of the arrival lobby. The bus fits about 6 persons with luggage, and picks up and drops them off one by one at their doors This door-to-door Airport Minibus Service is reasonably priced (one way ticket: HUF 2490, go-return ticket: HUF 4390).

By Public transportation to Déli Railway Station: A direct bus service called the 'Airport Bus', operates from Terminals 1 and 2 (A & B) to Kőbánya-Kispest Metro Station. Departure is in front of the arrival lobby. Passengers from Terminal 1 may take bus 93 to Kőbánya-Kispest Metro Station as well. From Kőbánya-Kispest Metro Station, the blue metro line (M3) takes you to the direction of the city center (Deák tér/square). At Deák tér/square change to M2, the red metro line to the direction of Déli Pályaudvar (Déli Railway Station). Balatonfüred is on the Budapest-Székesfehérvár-Tapolca line. See timetable below.

By Airport Taxi: The official company is Zóna Taxi, click on the link for details (fares, zones, etc.). The Déli Railway Station is in zone 3. The transfer price is HUF 3600 (approx. EUR 15). The Népliget Bus Terminal is in zone 2. The transfer price is HUF 3500 (approx. EUR 14-15).

Getting to the Déli Railway Station from the Nyugati and Keleti Railway Stations:

All three international railway stations are part of the Budapest Underground system (Metro). The Déli and Keleti Railway Stations have their stops on the M2 (red) line and the Nyugati railway station on the M3 (blue) line. From Keleti Railway Station take M2 to the direction of Deli Railway Station (Déli Pályaudvar). From Nyugati Railway Station take M2 to Deak ter/square, the intersection of the metro lines and change to M2 to the direction of Deli Railway Station (Déli Pályaudvar). Getting to the Népliget Bus Terminal from the Nyugati and Keleti Railway Stations:

From Keleti Railway Station (Keleti Pályaudvar) the M2 (red) metro line takes you to the direction of the city center (Deák tér/square), at Deák tér change to M3, the blue metro line to the direction of Kőbánya-Kispest and get off at station Népliget. From Nyugati Railway station (Nyugati Pályaudvar) take the M3 (blue) metro line to the direction of Köbánya-Kispest, and get off at the station Népliget. See timetable below.

Balatonfüred by car:

All Hungary's motorways and most of the main roads radiate out from the capital. The M1, M3, M5 and M7 are toll highways, and you must pay the appropriate toll (either at the border or at larger petrol stations) before getting on the road. Road signs conform to continental standards. 24-hour roadside assistance is provided by the Magyar Autóklub (Tel.: (+36-1) 345-1755), and emergency roadside is available by dialing 188.

Passport and visa:

Hungary is an EU member and the member of the Schengen Agreement. Please, contact your travel agent or local government agency to be sure you have the proper travel documents.

You are responsible for arranging a visa if required. Invitation letters for visa purposes will be issued for registered participants upon request.

Insurance:

The Organizers of the Conference do not provide insurance and do not take responsibility for any loss, accident or illness that might occur during the conference or in the course of travel to or from the meeting site. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the participants to check their coverage with their insurance provider.

Banks, currency, credit cards:

The unit of currency is the Hungarian Forint (HUF), denoted as "Ft" by the Hungarians. International credit cards (AmEx, EC/MC, Visa) are accepted at most hotels, restaurants and shops. ATMs are available at the Airport and in many locations throughout the city. Click here for exchange rates.

VAT refund:

The taxpayer registered abroad may ask for the refund of the VAT on products and services (s)he acquired in Hungary, if he/she is registered in a Member State of the European Communities or there is a reciprocity between the State of the registration and the Republic of Hungary (presently these are: Switzerland and Liechtenstein).

Voltage:

The electricity supply in Hungary is 220 V AC (50 Hz).

Weather:

Hungary is in the temperate zone, the late spring weather in May is usually nice and warm. Daily temperature ranges from 15oC to 23oC, and the relative humidity is below 50%.
